Arohanui is an Enviro-School. We have achieved SILVER status and are working towards Gold status. There are many environmental initiatives across the school, with some satellite classes having small gardens where they grow vegetables or flowers. The mini-enterprise group are making paper bricks out of old newspaper, for burning in wood burners. The horticulture group grow vegetables and fruit which is then used at school, or is taken home. A small group has started to work in the community garden in Buscombe Ave.

Environmental work is carried out by selected senior students for Twin Streams and Friends of the Whau. Last year Arohanui received a volunteers' award from Friends of the Whau.

At Base school food scraps go to the worm farm, which provides fertiliser for the garden. New compost bins are being built by students, thus reducing the amount of waste sent to the rubbish tip.
